IASKA is calling for Expressions of Interest from artists working with visual, digital and hybrid media who are interested in participating in the second iteration of spaced, IASKA’s recurring event of socially engaged art. This new event will comprise 16 residency-based projects that will take place in regional Western Australian locations throughout 2013–14, followed by a group exhibition of the residency outcomes at the Western Australian Museum, Perth in early 2015.

The curatorial focus of the second iteration of spaced will consider the idea of collective memory, intended as the site of competing narratives that communities re-interpret and reinvent to construct images of their present and future. Continue reading

2012 Faena Prize for the Arts

The Faena Group is pleased to announce the 2012 Faena Prize for the Arts.

Att00054

The competition is open to artists across the world and will award a grant of $25,000 to the winner as well as up to $50,000 to finance the production of a site-specific project that will be exhibited at the Faena Arts Center in Buenos Aires mid-2013. In addition, two special mentions will go to two other projects with a prize amount of $500 each.

The prize winner will be selected by an international jury that includes US curator Carlos Basualdo, Francois Pinault Foundation’s Caroline Bourgeois and Argentinean curator Inés Katzenstein, under the supervision of Ximena Caminos, Executive Director of the Faena Arts Center.

Inaugurated in September 2011 with the installation ‘O bicho suspenso na paisagem’ by Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto, curated by the Tate’s Jessica Morgan, the Faena Arts Center welcomed more than 75,000 visitors during its debut. Located in the old engine room of the historic building Los Molinos, a turn-of-the-last-century Belle-Époque landmark, the center has over 4,000 m2 and extends a cultural bridge to the city, bringing art and the creative processes within everyone’s reach. The second exhibition will be Cuban artists Los Carpinteros, which will open at the Faena Arts Center on May 15th.
