FUNCTION: Supporting the execution of United Way Toronto’s government and public policy stakeholder relations and communications strategy in support of United Way Toronto’s community impact agenda.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the execution of United Way Toronto’s government and public policy stakeholderrelations strategy. Support UWT’s community engagement agenda including identifying stakeholders, developing and maintaining organizational relationships, and managing two-way communications between United Way Toronto and key stakeholders. Manage government relations and communications, including analyzing legislation and initiatives, formulating advice on policy positions and developing and maintaining strong relationships with key decision-makers. Manage the execution of government and stakeholder communications strategies, help build relationships between United Way Toronto and other community organizations and support the identification of opportunities for collaboration. Develop briefing notes, backgrounders, and other supporting materials to UWT senior leadership. Support United Way Toronto’s strategic communications efforts, particularly with respect to building understanding of United Way Toronto’s community impact agenda. Support collaboration between United Way Toronto’s Research and Public Policy andCommunications and Public Affairs departments to further the advancement of UWT’s community agenda. Represent where appropriate, or provide support to the Director, Public Affairs and other United Way Toronto representatives among various government and community stakeholders. Manage and/or execute other key initiatives and special projects as assigned by the Director, Public Affairs. Select and manage students or interns to assist with the execution of UWT’s public affairs strategies
Qualifications: 5-7 years experience in community, government and/or political relations, advocacy, and strategic communications Knowledge of and experience working in municipal, provincial and/or federal governments and/or political establishments Demonstrated knowledge of issues affecting the community social services sector. Experienceworking with community-based organizations and understanding of United Way’s community impact strategy strongly desired Highly developed analytical, writing, research and communication skills Strong leadership skills, ability to motivate others and work collaboratively in a team environment is essential Results orientation and the ability to develop creative solutions Post-secondary education in communications, political science or public administration preferred.
