Youth Engagement Coordinator (Part Time – 6 months Contract)
 
Short term Contract:       25-30 hours per week 
Start & End Dates:         6 month contract (January to mid June 2012)
Salary:                          $16/hr to $20/hr per hour based on qualification and 
                                    experience
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Coordinate two small projects: 1) South Asian Youth Opportunities Project 2)South Asian Young Women Violence Prevention Project
•Coordinate a violence prevention project that aims to engage South Asian young women to develop tools, resources and curriculum for eliminating violence against women
•Organize community forums that brings various stakeholders to address gender-based violence
•Recruit, train, mentor and recognize volunteers for the two projects
•Work with media partners to train 20 newcomer youth in various technical and artistic skills in the field of media
•Develop and implement a leadership training program for South Asian youth with the support of South Asian Youth Advisory Committee
•Organize the fifth annual Fires of Resistance South Asian Youth Conference
•Produce the final reports for the projects capturing the outcomes and the learning
•Attend various meetings to represent CASSA and its mandate
•Support CASSA and its team in its ongoing activities promoting social and economic justice.
 
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
•Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience;
•Experience working with community members, community organizations and agencies to address issues faced by newcomers, immigrants, women and people of colour
•Sound understanding of, and experience working for, access and equity in community programs
•Demonstrated ability engaging stakeholders and integrating their input/ feedback into projects;
•Demonstrated project management and implementation skills, including the management of external consultants/stakeholder groups, and meeting multiple project deadlines;
•Strong leadership skills: integrity, ability to build trust of others; ability to deliver results;
•Excellent communication, facilitation, planning, organizational and time management skills
•Experience working from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist and anti-homophobic perspective
•Awareness of systemic barriers faced by racialized women; either from first-hand experience, work and/or educational experience
•Willingness to occasionally travel within the GTA
•Ability to speak one or more South Asian languages an asset
