In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, SAMPRADAYA DANCE CREATIONS is organizing a three-day dance symposium in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. This landmark project will focus on the emergence of new and unique ways of imagining the futures of new generation artists working in South Asian dance across Canada towards self-directed careers as they plan their place in the mainstream dance milieu. This three-day event will include the following:
Beyond Boundaries: Imagining New Futures For South Asian Dance in Canada will address the needs and challenges of the South Asian dance ecology, understood in its wider context of ‘the artist in society’ and how it relates its multiple stakeholders. It will provide voice for practitioners who have remained off the radar of ‘mainstream dance’ and have faced systemic barriers in accessing support and opportunities. Our focus will be directed towards new generation and emerging professional artists and provide a forum for networking, professional development and engaging with their communities.

Dance-Forward Performance Showcase- Performances by new generation artists – will feature a range of classical dance compositions by emerging dancers from across Canada. July 25, 2015 – 7pm – 9pm Performance by bharatanatyam soloist Malavika Sarukkai- ( Chennai, India) Ganga Nitya Vaahini – the Eternal River July 26, 2015 – 4pm-6pm PARAMPARA – Sampradaya Dance Creations dance performance – 15 dancers, 5 musicians. Space is limited, will be issued on a first come basis. 3-Day Dance Workshop with Renowned Bharatanatyam Dancer Malavika Sarukkai July 27-29, 2015 – 6pm-9pm Sampradaya Dance Centre, Mississauga, ON
Day 1:
Students will learn to locate the energy center in their bodies to enable them to dance
with a new found energy. Students will learn detailed expression through
angika abhinaya, body language.
Day 2:
Revision of day 1. Followed by learning of the Mallari, pure dance composition.
This will take students into understanding the intricacies of rhythm and movement.
Day 3:
Revision of day 2. Followed by verses describing Krishna.
By imbibing the language of expression, students will get a keener understanding
of poetry, movement and space.
Workshop Fee: $200
