CPAMO, Aboriginal Curatorial Collective, Small World Music/Polyphonic Ground, Humber College, Feminist Art Collective and OCAD University collaborate on addressing pluralism in the arts.
Geared towards sharing strategies in the engagement of Indigenous, racialized, disabled and mad, women and other historically-marginalized artists and communities since it was initiated by CPAMO in the Spring 2016. The Gathering is a very powerful, positive and transformative convening of academics, creatives and arts leaders in the creative industry. The Gathering | Pluralism in Arts Practices: Contemporary Intersections will explore frameworks for understanding contemporary expressions of Indigenous / racialized, disabled and other marginalized identified art making and its intersections. Held over three days, the symposium will showcase artists through performances, visual arts exhibitions, plenary sessions aimed at building organizational and artistic capacity, with the aspirations of enlivening community conversation in the arts.
The Gathering offers an interactive space where arts organizations, artists and attendees dedicated to advancing pluralism in the arts, can share, dialogue and exchange strategies supporting the social and civic engagement in the arts.
How do we achieve systemic change more effectively through collective, creative action while sharing approaches to understand arts practices? At the core of the Gathering is understanding how contemporary intersections in artistic practice shape diverse Canadian cultural expressions.
What we hope to achieve? We hope that everyone arrives at a better understanding of diverse realities of indigenous / ethno-racially identified artists / organizations supporting a heightened awareness of arts practices working in a pluralist lens.
