Join us for a reading (in English) of Adiós Ayacucho, the tale of Alfonso Cánepa, a Peruvian peasant tortured and killed by the military whose soul returns to Lima in search of his remains and eternal peace.  Based on an adaptation of the novel by Julio Ortega, originally directed by Miguel Rubio Zapata with the Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani.

Live musical accompaniment by Brandon Valdivia, special guest artists to perform, and with an introduction by Activist/Scholar Brian Batchelor (read his blog on Yuyachkani here).

WEESAGEECHAK BEGINS TO DANCE

Native Earth Performing Arts is seeking submissions for Weesageechak Begins to Dance 27 —a festival devoted to developing and showcasing new works by Indigenous artists.

We welcome:

– Submissions in theatre, dance, music, poetry, multidisciplinary works
– Collaborations between Indigenous playwrights, choreographers or creators
– Works at all stages of development

This year’s Weesageechak Festival will take place November 12th –22nd, 2014 in our Aki Studio Theatre. Each selected piece receives dramaturgical/directorial support, rehearsal time and a public showing.  To be eligible, creators must be available to attend the festival.

Submissions will be curated by a selection committee.  The Weesageechak Festival is open to all Indigenous artists.  We are particularly, but not exclusively, interested in new work that examines contemporary Native challenges and experiences.

Deadline for submission:  June 30th, 2014

Obsidian Theatre is currently taking submissions for our General Auditions.  We are looking for actors from the African Diaspora – performers who are new to the profession/Toronto or actors who have not auditioned for us in the past two years.

 The audition dates are Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16.  Location details will be given to the selected participants only.
