About the ACC/CCA
Incorporated in 2006, the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective /Collectif des Conservateurs Autochtones (ACC/CCA) is a national arts service organization that supports, promotes and advocates on behalf of Canadian and international Aboriginal curators, critics, artists and representatives of arts and cultural organizations. The ACC develops and disseminates curatorial practices, innovative research and critical discourses on Aboriginal arts and culture. By fostering collaboration and exchange the ACC builds an equitable space for the Aboriginal intellectual and artistic community.

The Membership Communications Assistant Role
You will join a small, non-profit organization of dedicated Aboriginal artists, curators and academics led by the National Coordinator. You will be a creative thinker and social media/communications enthusiast who can assist the National Coordinator with administrative and organizational tasks as they relate to your role, primarily responsible for managing the ACC/CCA website, weekly e-newsletter, facebook page and other social media tools. You will be responsible for editing, maintaining and updating the organization’s various social media platforms, answering and/or re-directing inquiries, posting new content to the website, keeping up-to-date on relevant exhibitions and events, increasing the ACC/CCA’s social-media/online public profile and spearheading a membership renewal initiative. This position is an excellent opportunity to make connections between various individuals, organizations and institutions both within and across the Aboriginal arts and the larger arts community in Canada.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working with the National Coordinator to devise a strategy for renewing the membership through the ACC/CCAs online platforms
  • Spearheading the membership renewal initiative – this includes reaching out to current members to review and resubmit their membership information as well as encouraging new members to join the organization
  • Creating a new, revised membership database from the information gathered from the membership renewal initiative
  • Editing and posting content of pages and posts on WordPress website on a weekly basis
  • Receiving and disseminating diverse events, exhibitions, news, calls etc as relevant to the ACC/CCA membership through various social media platforms
  • Fielding questions, comments, concerns from various online platforms and/or re-directing as appropriate/required
  • Working with the National Coordinator to revise formatting on WordPress site for optimized website functioning
  • Other duties to be determined/as required

You will have:

  • Bilingualism (French/English written, spoken, reading) required
  • A fine arts/art history, new media, communications, graphic design or other relevant post-secondary education OR a minimum of three (3) years experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge and interest in Aboriginal art and the Aboriginal art community in Canada.
  • Demonstrated ability working with: WordPress, facebook, twitter, MS Office (word, excel)
  • Pleasant, positive and effective verbal communication with solid writing skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated integrity: focused on high quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated discretion, tact, initiative and sound judgment skills.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills and Social Media tools.
  • The ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Scarborough Arts, in collaboration with R.I.S.E. Edutainment and the Toronto Public Library, presents the EAST Spoken Word & Poetry Collective for youth ages 12-18. This Collective provides youth with local opportunities to explore creativity and performance and develop their craft in poetry and spoken word under the guidance of emerging artists and community facilitators from R.I.S.E. Edutainment.

Taking the idea of “neighbourhood games” as a theme, the program is designed to promote youth creative expression, animate communities and public spaces, and inspire collaboration between young performers and their peers across the Scarborough. Participants in the program will have several opportunities to showcase their work, receive feedback, and learn about wider youth arts networks and resources.

The FREE workshops are anchored in four key Scarborough neighbourhoods and will take place at the following local Toronto Public Library Branches:

  • Agincourt Branch (155 Bonis Avenue) – May 13-June 14 (Tuesdays 4-5:30 p.m.)
  • Malvern Branch (30 Sewells Road) – June 21-July 26 (Saturdays 2-3:30 p.m.)
  • Morningside Branch (4279 Lawrence Avenue East) – August 2-September 6 (Saturdays 2-3:30 p.m.)
  • Cedarbrae Branch (645 Markham Road) – September 13-October 11 (Saturdays 2-3:30 p.m.)
