How can you still be productive in working with others when you aren’t able to meet in-person? With today’s technology there are many (free and low cost!) ways to have one-on-one and group meetings where you can share your screen, work together on documents and see each other with video. This workshop will show you how to use these features with popular tools such as Skype, Google+ Hangout and GoToMeeting, and discuss what you need to think about when picking a tool.

All participants are asked to bring your laptops and please set up a Skype and Google+ account prior to the workshop.

For Immediate Release: Speed Dating for the Arts: Fall In Love with the Arts is here!

Toronto, ON – November 21, 2012 – COBA (Collective of Black Artists) and CPAMO (Cultural Pluralism in the Arts Movement Ontario) are hosting the third annual Fall in Love with the Arts

[formerly Spring Fling] “Speed dating” for the arts event at the beautiful new Artscape Lounge at Daniels Spectrum on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, between 6-9pm. More than 10 culturally diverse arts organizations participate in this fun and flirty annual event to find volunteers, supporters and to network with the public. This event offers entertainment, mouthwatering food and lots of incredible door prizes. Admission is FREE with the completion of a short preliminary questionnaire.

“I had a great time at Spring Fling 2 [event’s former name] last year. It’s a fun, community building event that really helps to showcase some of the best hidden artistic gems in the city of Toronto. I’m excited that it’s going to be held at the new Artscape Lounge at Daniel Spectrum because it’s in the heart of a great hub of art’s and community organizations” said Kevin Ormsby, Artistic Director of KasheDance.”

Last year’s Spring Fling event was held at the Annex live and attracted over 60 would-be volunteers and attendees from arts organizations. Ten organizations from the arts community participated. Attendees were given an opportunity to have a 3 minute “date” with each of the participating culturally diverse arts organizations in the hopes of striking up a close working relationship.

“We think it’s very important to help connect people with these nonprofit arts organizations who do incredible, engaging and eye-opening work. Though everyone loves art, sometimes it can be intimidating to get involved directly with the arts for non-artists” said Anita Agrawal, the organizer for Fall in Love with the Arts. “Fall in Love with the Arts” opens the door to show people how they can get involved in the arts using whatever skills or expertise they already possess. So much organizational and infrastructural work needs to be done in order to produce great art and volunteers in any capacity are critical to that process. Volunteering in the arts is such a rewarding and enriching experience for both skills development and personal growth”.
