$13.50/hr, 32 hours/week
8-week contract (July 3 to August 24, 2012)

The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is an artist-run production and educational media arts organization dedicated to celebrating excellence in the moving image. LIFT exists to provide support and encouragement for independent filmmakers and artists through affordable access to production, post-production and exhibition equipment; professional and creative development; workshops and courses; commissioning and exhibitions; artist-residencies; and a variety of other services. Founded in 1981 by a small collective, LIFT has since grown to become one of the foremost centres of its kind globally.

LIFT requires a highly organized film and digital video technician to join the LIFT staff and to work in cooperation with members. AOE Arts Council is a non-profit, charitable organization that supports, promotes and develops the arts in Ottawa through services, resources, programs and advocacy for the benefit of all Ottawa residents. Formed in 1987, as the Gloucester Arts Council, AOE has grown to represent more than 300 individual members and 90 organizations.

In response to its succession planning strategy, AOE is currently seeking to recruit an Executive Director. This is an exciting opportunity to apply strong visionary leadership to move an established arts organization into the next phase of its growth and development.

Job Summary

AOE is seeking an Executive Director who is an exceptional leader with a passion for the arts.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and operations of AOE Arts Council (AOE). In keeping with the philosophy, policy and programs of the organization, as established by the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the implementation and effective management of AOE operations and all its programs.

The Executive Director will be expected to recommend and participate in the formulation and implementation of new policies; be responsible for the planning, organizing, direction, coordination and monitoring of the organization’s operations; oversee its financial operations; pursue diversified revenue streams; be responsible for human resources matters; and foster and maintain a positive working relationship with all AOE stakeholders.

The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of the arts sector complemented by a demonstrable understanding of the voluntary sector, including knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to the not-for-profit sector.

An astute strategist and articulate bilingual communicator, the Executive Director will have excellent people management skills and substantive experience in community relations, municipal/government relations, building partnerships, fund development and strategic planning. Continue reading

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: the 8 fest 2013

INTRODUCTION
The 8 fest seeks your 8mm, Super-8, 9.5mm, or other small gauge film
projects (such as loops and installations) for our 2013 installment
next January.

Films can be:
– Experimental, animated, personal, handmade
– Diary and essay films, documentaries
– Live performance and music mixed with film
– Films from everyday culture – historical footage, home movies

The 8 fest exhibits all work on film. Works selected for the festival, therefore, must be finished on small-gauge film (8mm, Super-8, 9.5 mm). We also exhibit blow-ups to 16mm of films that have been finished on small-gauge (or unsplit 8mm pieces). We do not exhibit projects on video or digital.

The 8 fest uses professional small-gauge projection equipment including Elmo GS-1200 and ST-1200 models. Our technicians and programmers have many years experience specializing in small-gauge film formats and technology. The greatest care will be taken in handling, previewing, and projecting films.
