CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: the 8 fest 2013

INTRODUCTION
The 8 fest seeks your 8mm, Super-8, 9.5mm, or other small gauge film
projects (such as loops and installations) for our 2013 installment
next January.

Films can be:
– Experimental, animated, personal, handmade
– Diary and essay films, documentaries
– Live performance and music mixed with film
– Films from everyday culture – historical footage, home movies

The 8 fest exhibits all work on film. Works selected for the festival, therefore, must be finished on small-gauge film (8mm, Super-8, 9.5 mm). We also exhibit blow-ups to 16mm of films that have been finished on small-gauge (or unsplit 8mm pieces). We do not exhibit projects on video or digital.

The 8 fest uses professional small-gauge projection equipment including Elmo GS-1200 and ST-1200 models. Our technicians and programmers have many years experience specializing in small-gauge film formats and technology. The greatest care will be taken in handling, previewing, and projecting films. Harcourt House Arts Centre – Call for Submissions

2013/2014 GALLERY EXHIBITION PROGRAMMING

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: June 30th, 2012
 
 
Harcourt House Arts Centre is currently accepting submissions for our 2013/ 2014 gallery exhibition programming for the Main Gallery and Front Room Gallery exhibition spaces.  For proposals to be considered submission packages must be postmarked by June 30, 2012.
 
Harcourt House Arts Centre’s exhibition programming aims to expose artists and the community to the diverse, challenging work of local, national and international contemporary artists. The centre actively promotes work that does not conform to the restrictions inherent in both the commercial or other public gallery systems.
 
Calls for submission are open to individual visual artists, teams of visual artists, curators, artist co-op’s and organizations and includes all visual art disciplines. Exhibitions are selected by an independent jury comprised of professional artists, educators and arts administrators.
 
The Front Room space showcases new work fresh out of the studio, experimental work, work in it’s final stages of creation and timely projects from all visual art disciplines. Submissions for this space are ongoing.
 
The Main Gallery showcases work in all disciplines. Work is expected to be highly resolved in both concept and in execution and must have been produced within the past two years at the time of application. Calls for submission for the Main Gallery Space take place semiannually; June 30 and November 30.
 
Submission criteria for Front Room and Main Gallery Spaces
 
•    C.V.
•    Artist/curatorial statement
•    Project description/proposal including gallery space you are applying for
•    10 – 15 good quality digital images of recent work *refer to digital images link for guidelines*
•    Slide list including: title, dimensions, medium, and date
•    Any other relevant support material including press clippings, audio/video tape or CD/ROM
•    Self-addressed, stamped envelope if you wish to have your package returned
•    Artists should have demonstrated at least 2 years commitment to studio work outside of an institution
 
NOTE: Curriculum vitae (C.V.), artist statement, plan of activity and slide list must be submitted in hard copy AND digitally as a writable Word or Open Office document. Files must be Mac compatible. NO PDFs.

outside of the downtown core.

The past decade has seen major public and private investment in larger anchor cultural facilities (Four Seasons Centre, ROM, AGO, National Ballet School, Telus Centre, etc.), but the upgrade and/or development of facilities for small and mid-size organizations and community cultural groups is a critical next step to ensure a vibrant cultural community. In particular, there is a need to develop and enhance cultural spaces in neighborhoods throughout the City to ensure that all Torontonians have access to spaces to learn, play, practice, and engage with arts and culture of all forms.

In the 2011 report, Creative Capital Gains: An Action Plan for Toronto, the City of Toronto identified its role in supplying “affordable, sustainable cultural space” for use by cultural industries, not-for-profit organizations and community groups.

This public consultation process is the city's way of making good on that commitment.
